When to book Hightlights

Highlights are most often utilized for when you are looking to feel primarily blonde yet dimensional. They go very high up to the root vs its counter part balayage.

What are babylights?

Baby lights or micro highlights are a technique of create softer more finely woven highlights to grow in a much softer way. They create more natural blonding and when paired with a root tap minimize the harsher grow out of traditional highlights.

Midlights vs Lowlights. Why and when to use them.

Looking to add more depth to your color. Lowlights and miglights can be great to add more texture and dimension back to your color. Sometimes as we journey into blonde, highlights and balayages tend to get lighter than we want from a these previous services building on top of each other, so we must paint that texture back into the hair.

Lowlights: For me are either darker than your base color or match your base color. They create more contrast in the color.

Midlights: a color that falls inbetween your natural base and lighter highlighted ends. A favorite of mine to paint partially through (not all they way to the ends) to look like what your natural color would be if it had grown out and natually lightened. Perfect for an organic natural effect.

A Gloss is always included!

When we are lifting hair via highlights or balayage a gloss is always included. This is because of multiple reasons. First it is where we create customized tone. Often our highlights and balayages lift more into an area of warmth we dont want to see. An unintentional warth. Unless your hair is naturally very light this is often unavoidable. So a gloss neutralizes warmth or adds more controlled warmth.

The second reason is part of hair health. Lightening our hair results in a increase in our hair pH. Raised pH can be brought back down with an acidic demi permanent color to reestablish our pH in a healthy environment of 4.5-5.5. This results in hair with more shine and reflect.

So Glossing is a vital part to any lightening service. Even if just a clear gloss.

Make your highlights more low maintence.

To make you highlights last just a bit longer, look to utilize more of the babylight option and/or root taps. These elements help soften the fact that highlights/foils tend to create a distinction more noticeable between your natural the strands painted.

What is a root tap?

Root tap is a great tool for highlights clients to soften the area where the highlights touch at the base.

You can utilize root taps that are the same color as your natural to full erase the hightlight line or,

You can create a root tap similar to a midlight. A color with just a slight bit more depth than the highlight but lighter than your natural color. Creating an illusion of softening your highlight line and making the highlights seem as if they were growing from your scalp.
